Extra-Deep Fireplace Mantel for Stone, Brick, and Tile Surrounds

This handcrafted 8-inch-deep knotty alder fireplace mantel is made for installations where stone, brick, or tile builds out from the wall. The extra depth lets part of the mantel extend behind the finished surround while leaving a substantial shelf projection in front of the stone.

Why Choose an 8-Inch-Deep Mantel?

A standard mantel can look too shallow once a thick stone veneer or masonry surround is installed. With a full 8-inch depth, this wood mantel gives your installer room to recess the back portion into or behind the surround and still leave enough mantel exposed for a balanced finished look and useful display space.

How to Measure for a Stone Fireplace

Measure the complete finished build-out from the mounting surface to the face of the stone. Include cement board, lath, mortar or scratch coat, and the stone, brick, or tile itself. Subtract that total from 8 inches to estimate how much mantel will project beyond the finished surround. For example, a 2-inch finished build-out leaves about 6 inches of visible shelf depth.

If you need a different depth or dimensions, message us before ordering and we can create a custom size for your fireplace.

Handcrafted Solid-Wood Construction

  • Built from real knotty alder, never MDF, veneer, or faux wood
  • Miter-folded construction hides end grain for a clean, furniture-quality appearance
  • French cleat included for secure, straightforward installation
  • Available in widths from 48 to 74 inches and heights from 4 to 8 inches
  • Multiple hand-applied finish options with a durable protective topcoat
  • Handcrafted in our Utah workshop

Made for Your Fireplace

This extra-deep floating fireplace mantel works beautifully with stacked stone, ledgestone, limestone, brick, tile, and other dimensional fireplace surrounds. Its simple profile fits modern, transitional, farmhouse, rustic, and traditional rooms while the knotty alder grain adds natural warmth and character.

Installation note: Coordinate the mantel depth and mounting location with your stone installer before installation. Anchor the French cleat to structural framing or properly installed blocking, and follow the fireplace manufacturer's clearance requirements and all local codes.
